iPhone 12

> Exterior

The rumours were true with 4 new models in the line-up - iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max. The new iPhones are a throwback to the iPhone 4/5 era with flatter sides but are still lighter and slimmer than the iPhone 11 range. They also feature Ceramic Shield tech that makes the phones stronger and more resilient to drops.

> Performance

The latest A14 Bionic chip provides 50% better performance than its predecessor. The chip will power the new mmWave 5G technology which allows devices to drop back to 4G to save battery. However, this feature will be limited to devices sold in the US.

> New camera features

The new iPhone 12 Pro now has 2.5x optical zoom and the Pro Max has 4 x optical zoom. The Pro and Pro Max have new night mode photography features and 87% better low light performance.

Both models have LiDAR support (for better AR experiences) and a new ProRAW image format. They can also record HDR video (4K at 60 fps) and have Dolby Vision support.

> No more power block or earpods included

With the iPhone 12, no power block or earpods are included anymore but a USB-C to lightning cable is provided. The reason for their removal is to create less wastage.

> Price + how to buy

Prices start from $1,199 for the iPhone 12 mini to $1,849 for the iPhone 12 Pro Max.

Pre-orders for the iPhone 12 and Pro begin this Friday and will go on sale on October 23.

Pre-orders for the iPhone 12 mini and Pro Max will begin on November 7 and will go on sale on November 13.

The iPhone SE 2020, XR and 11 will remain as lower cost options.

MagSafe accessories

The MagSafe range has now expanded to iPhone accessories! Apple has taken the concept of their old MacBook charger that snapped on and off magnetically and used it to create a high-speed wireless charger that supports 15w charging. A duo charger with Apple Watch compatibility will be available later this year.

The MagSafe range also features snap-on cases and a snap-on wallet accessory

HomePod Mini

Apple also announced the HomePod mini, a baby to Apple's original HomePod. The HomePod mini is a classic spherical design with a S5 chip to power Siri, smart home accessories and high definition audio. There's a touch surface which glows when Siri is activated.

We love how intuitive it is when you have multiple HomePod minis and they work together to stream audio in different rooms in sync. There's also an Intercom feature where you can send and receive messages to any other Apple device or software such as CarPlay.

You can pre-order the HomePod here.
