Play Background Sounds on iPhone

Play Background Sounds on iPhone

An oldie but a goodie! If you are currently on iOS15 or higher, there is a pretty nifty hidden feature available on the iPhone. It is known as Background Sounds

Background Sounds offer six different ambient noises that play on a loop (like your own portable white noise machine). It helps you unwind and destress on the commute home.

The sounds can be played independently or under any other media app you have playing at the time, such as podcasts or streaming music.

To activate Background Sounds on your iPhone:

  1. Go to Settings > Accessibility > Audio & Visual > Background Sounds, then turn on Background Sounds.
  2. Set any of the following:
    • Sound: Choose a sound; the audio file downloads to your iPhone.
    • Volume: Drag the slider.
    • Use When Media is Playing: Adjust the volume of the background sound when the iPhone is playing music or other media.
    • Stop Sounds When Locked: Background sounds stop playing when the iPhone is locked
